We all know the cruise industry did not happen overnight.  Intercontinental travel was the backbone of ocean liners until the aviation industry took off to new heights.  Travel times reduced drastically and put the slow-moving ocean liners out of business.  Aviation industry's gain was a loss for the ocean liners, but the latter did not take it lying down.  Rather than caving in and shutting shop, ocean liners modified their business by adding amenities and luxury on-board their vessels.  They built bigger and better ships and attracted passengers who were not looking to get to their destinations at a jet-pace.  Thus, the industry evolved and it now stands tall, just like the ships themselves.
